Experience a traditional Japanese Setsubun, or bean throwing festival,l at Nagano's largest and oldest Zenkoji Temple! Setsubun in Japanese culture marks the change of season from winter to spring when it is believed that evil spirits can enter into the human world. Bean throwing events are held at shrines in order to chase away these evil spirits away. Come along to witness an awe-inspiring procession, join the crowds trying to catch bags of beans being thrown from the terraces of the temple and participate in festival festivities happening in the temple grounds.
